Hinarera Hunt-Lambert - Maori Contemporary Painter with tribal links to Ngaiterangi (Ngati Ranginui, Matapihi, Tauranga) and Ngapuhi.
Ronald Tomoana Lambert, Diploma in Visual Arts and Design and the creative force behind us!! From Dannevirke, NZ, his tribal affiliations are Ngati Kahungunu and Ngati Porou.
Maori art was introduced to me under the tutelage of Buck Nin, a prominent NZ maori painter at the time, at the Church College of New Zealand. I developed it with more vibrance, in my last years of secondary school, after which I studied at Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland, NZ, and then EIT, Hawkes Bay.
My art has always been influenced by the carved figures, which I portray with contemporary expression. I am currently also introducing the kowhaiwhai patterns in my heavily textured works.
The motivation behind my work is based on an artists “noble calling to hold up a torch for that which is great and beautiful and light” (Josse Ford)
Artists must use their God given talent in bringing joy and happiness into the lives of many people and to promote that which is ‘virtuous, lovely or of good report or praiseworthy……” and encourage others to seek after these things.
